Our Instructors & Staff Members

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Karate and other martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students.

GEORGE GREEN  (3rd DEGREE)
Sensei George Green is one of the founders of Tsunami Martial Arts Academy and is one of the head instructors. Sensei Green has been a personal trainer for the past 15 years and is the former Physical Training Instructor for the Maryland State Police. Sensei Green is a certified Defensive Tactics and Boxing Instructor. Sensei Green has been in law enforcement for over 22 years. Sensei Green holds a bachelor degree in criminal Justice and is a certified personal trainer through Coopers Institute, Dallas Texas.

Shantelle Hawkins  (1st Degree Balck Belt)
Ms. Hawkins is the first female promoted to the rank of blackbelt at Tsunami Martial Arts Academy. She is an excellent student and has excelled through the ranks to become an excellent instructor. She has a remarkable relationship with all of the students and other instructors.

Broderick McKethan  (5th Degree)
Master Broderick McKethan is a 5th Degree Black Belt. He began his study in martial arts in 1982 under the instruction of the late Master Eugene Carter; a Black Belt of Grand Master Garcia Davis of the Champions Karate Club. Master Broderick trained with the Technicians Karate Club under Master Carter at the Mount Royal Recreation Center from 1982 advancing through the ranks of White to Black Belt 1st Degree which he obtained in 1989. Master Broderick currently trains and instructs at the Bentalou Recreation Center, the Technicians Karate Club’s current home.
Master Broderick became involved with the Tsunami Martial Arts Academy in 2008. He was immediately made to feel at home by the instructors, students and families. He has accompanied Tsunami to tournaments in and outside of Maryland. He has participated in rank tests with the Tsunami students.
Throughout his training and instructing, Master Broderick has shown dedication toward working with his students, not only teaching martial arts but life skills as well. He takes interest in their academic studies, making submission of report cards a requirement. It is not enough for them to be good at Karate, it is more important to be prepared to be productive and successful in life.
